Blackstone: background and attribution
Blackstone names more than one unrelated design. Chris Costello’s family draws on fantasy and gothic themes and was among the winners of the 1988 Chartpak competition. PeachCreme’s Blackstone is a separate modern calligraphy product by Gulya Ju. Their credits, histories and resources should not be combined into one fictional family.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Costello’s listing describes two styles with alternate capitals and dingbats. PeachCreme documents a calligraphic alphabet with ligatures and beginning and ending swashes. Identify which design matches the intended lettering before selecting a source; the script comparisons below relate to the calligraphic direction.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Start by deciding whether the project needs fantasy display lettering or flowing calligraphy. Compare the actual source specimens with the same short wording. Check alternate access and fine details in the selected product, then use a clear companion for supporting information.
For independent comparisons, try Sacramento and Great Vibes. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
