Fossora has a documented custom alphabet
The Tokyo TDC’s 2023 Fossora award record credits M/M (Paris), Michaël Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak. Its project account explains how mushroom-cell growth studies and diagrams informed a set of core shapes used to construct the letters. Flat forms were then developed into tactile three-dimensional objects. This is a specific album project, not a universal Björk font.
In a 2015 firsthand interview, Augustyniak describes the collaboration through the different characters and musical worlds created for individual albums. Keep the album identity attached to any lettering reference instead of labeling every unusual organic alphabet “the Björk font.”
Make growth part of the letter construction
For your own organic album title, choose a small set of repeatable parts: a branching joint, a swollen terminal and a connecting stroke, for example. Draw several different letters with the same parts before adding surface texture. If the parts produce only one attractive initial but cannot distinguish the rest of the title, revise the construction.
Keep a flat silhouette version beside a modeled version. A rendered fold or highlight can make a clear flat character look like another letter. Treat the Fredericka the Great specimen as an independent display comparison, not an editable version of Fossora’s alphabet.
Build album artwork and track information at different scales
Test the custom title at cover size and again as a small streaming thumbnail. Keep the artist name and album name identifiable without requiring the viewer to inspect every decorative detail. Put track names, credits and dates in a separate readable system, using the album-cover typography guide for that hierarchy.
For a separate copyable music caption, our font generator for expressive short text changes characters through Unicode substitutions. It does not provide M/M’s original alphabets, original album artwork or their three-dimensional renderings.
Your questions, answered.
Is Fossora lettering a standard Björk font?
It is a custom alphabet project documented for Fossora. Björk’s other album identities should be researched separately.
Does this page provide M/M’s original font files?
No. The cited award record documents the original project. The editable specimens here are separate typefaces for comparison, not downloads of its alphabet.
