01

Beleren: background and attribution

Wizards of the Coast commissioned Delve Fonts in late 2012 to create Beleren for Magic: The Gathering. The studio records its introduction as primary display type with Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers. Wizards explains that the name refers to the character Jace Beleren.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The studio describes a nine-font custom family shaped around the game’s identity and display needs. A bespoke brand commission is different from a general retail font. The project account documents the original but does not establish permission to reuse font files extracted from another website.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

For an independent fantasy-card layout, compare a title, rules paragraph and numeric values at the intended card size. Keep the hierarchy clear and use a font you are entitled to install. The linked open-font comparisons are separate designs rather than Beleren downloads.

For independent comparisons, try Cinzel and Marcellus. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

Official preview and font resources

Use Delve Fonts to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Beleren font software.

The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
