Belda: background and attribution
Jeremy Dooley developed Belda with reference to the calligraphic construction of Roman capitals. The publisher positions it as a contemporary development from that foundation, using delicate curves and sharp serifs rather than presenting it as a direct copy of one ancient inscription. Production assistance is credited to Lucas Azevedo and iKern.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The family offers multiple weights and widths, small capitals and titling capitals. Its contrast and detailing change the effect across display sizes. Belda Didone is a separately described related product, so identify the intended family before borrowing a style count or specimen.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short title in ordinary and titling capitals before selecting a width. Inspect the finer details at the final size and allow enough room around the lettering. Keep a simpler text companion where a cover or poster also needs a long description.
For independent comparisons, try Cinzel and Marcellus. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
