Banco: background and attribution
The publisher traces Banco to Roger Excoffon’s 1952 design for Fonderie Olive and distinguishes Phil Grimshaw’s 1997 expansion. It also separately documents Tagir Safayev’s Cyrillic work for ParaType in 2000. These are different stages of the family’s development.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The original all-capital bold design and later lowercase and lighter resources should not be collapsed into one undifferentiated historical edition. Inspect the tapering, slanted strokes in the exact resource you intend to use.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try an energetic short heading and numerals. Permanent Marker and Knewave offer independent marker-and-brush comparisons. Keep body text separate if the display rhythm makes long reading harder.
For independent comparisons, try Permanent Marker and Knewave. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
