01

Balmoral: background and attribution

Balmoral is Martin Wait’s copperplate-style script, dated 1978 in the ITC publisher account. It combines generous initial capitals with more restrained joining lowercase. The historical reference describes its formal script direction, while the digital resource is a specific licensed edition.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Compare the leading capital and following lowercase in each actual name. Joined script benefits from attention to the whole word rather than separate letter spacing adjustments. Use the original glyph view to inspect accents and punctuation instead of assuming that every formal announcement needs only an English alphabet.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a certificate recipient name, a short citation heading and a greeting-card line. Leave vertical room for the capital strokes. Keep dates, addresses and explanatory text in a simpler companion so the formal emphasis remains easy to recognize.

For independent comparisons, try Pinyon Script and Great Vibes. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
