Follow the documented QBF-to-Red-Rooster lineage
Red Rooster’s own Badger account describes a glyphic family originally created for QBF in Manchester. Pat Hickson manufactured the digital letterforms for the collection, and Steve Jackaman produced its full commercial version. Jackaman and Ashley Muir then redrew the family for the Pro release in 2010. Keep this lineage attached to Red Rooster’s resource: another publisher’s same-named Badger does not automatically share that history or its files.
Compare real upright and italic companions at four weights
The original family resource lists Light, Medium, Bold and Extra Bold with matching italics. For a fictional ARCHIVE CAFÉ card, compare the title in Light and Bold while keeping its width and wording unchanged. Choose the title’s weight first, then try the matching italic in a short subtitle. Inspect how the subtitle and heading relate as complete lines rather than turning every word into a separate display treatment. Save the full publisher and style names in the working file so the selected companion can be recovered later.
Use its feature set for a structured café card
The publisher documents small capitals, oldstyle numerals, fractions, ordinals, subscript and superscript. Make a second card with a small-cap edition label, an ordinal such as 1st and a short price column. Compare the same content with those features off and on in software that exposes the relevant font controls. Inspect any changed line length before finalizing the panel. These are glyph choices within the font, not decorative Unicode replacements. The homepage text-style formatter changes copied characters and does not activate Badger’s OpenType features or transfer its original files.
Your questions, answered.
What changed in the documented Badger Pro release?
Red Rooster credits Steve Jackaman and Ashley Muir with completely redrawing the family for a 2010 Pro release.
Does Badger mean the same family from every publisher?
No. This guide identifies Red Rooster’s QBF-derived family and its documented Pro redraw. Keep the foundry name with the font choice to distinguish namesakes.
