Read the family’s resource names before choosing a style
The FontSite Avalon listing offers fourteen fonts: Extra Light, Book, Medium, Demi and Bold with oblique companions, plus Book, Medium, Demi and Bold Condensed. The publisher also supplies separate test-drive, feature and glyph areas. These names distinguish weight, slant and width; a condensed file is not simply a label for the heaviest weight.
This guide covers that FontSite family. It does not assign another designer’s history or a release date from a third-party download record to a similar family name.
Use condensed styles for a measured layout comparison
Create an exhibition heading, a narrow room label and a short paragraph. Keep the room label’s available width fixed, then compare its normal-width and condensed resources at the same nominal size. Check the longest room name, a line with punctuation and the numerals used in opening hours. Select the width that supports the layout rather than making all text as narrow as possible.
Next compare two adjacent weights with identical wording. Keep oblique styles out of that first comparison so you can judge width and weight separately. Record the resulting style names for the layout instead of writing only the family name.
Check the actual characters and keep previews labeled
Put every needed accented name, currency symbol and number format into your proof. Use the publisher glyph and feature areas to inspect the exact resource, then verify it in your own layout application after obtaining the appropriate files. A broad language-support label is less useful than the text your project will actually print.
The local Jost and Montserrat specimens are independent comparison families. They do not render Avalon. The homepage font-style tool instead creates Unicode-based text treatments for copying; it does not install FontSite’s files or preserve Avalon’s width choices when you paste into another app.
Your questions, answered.
Does applying a width transform select Avalon Condensed?
No. Choose the actual named resource when your project calls for that style and compare its real spacing in context.
Are the preview families on this page Avalon?
No. Jost and Montserrat are independently identified comparisons. Use FontSite’s own specimen for the original family.
