01

August: background and attribution

Ellen Luff’s August family is dedicated to her grandfather, a musician, according to the creator’s account. The name refers to dignity as well as being a familiar month name. This guide covers that condensed display sans-serif, not every font used in an August calendar design.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The listed collection contains Light and Bold with italic companions. Compare the curves and compressed proportions at the intended display size. Keep August distinct from other families named Augusta and from unrelated products with similar names.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Set a concert heading, a date and a short performer line. Compare Light and Bold using actual names and punctuation. Choose deliberate line breaks in a narrow poster frame rather than horizontally distorting the letters to make the title fit.

For independent comparisons, try Antonio and Roboto Condensed. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
