Identify Solotype’s named Atlantis family
Solotype’s original Atlantis resource describes a sans-serif alternative to Atlanta, a capitals-only design issued by Central Type Foundry in St. Louis in 1885. Solotype added lowercase. This identifies a particular retail family and a specific revival decision; it is not evidence that Atlantis is a universal ancient alphabet or the typeface in every film or brand bearing that name.
Keep the hotel’s commissioned family separate
Monotype’s firsthand Atlantis Resorts case describes a different commission with Futurebrand and Kerzner. The logo retained arched A crossbars; the initial headline type needed strokes robust enough for steel-cut signage. The project later expanded from capitals into upper- and lowercase Latin. This custom identity is not Solotype’s retail revival, and the case study does not supply its original font files for public reuse.
Compare the character needs before choosing a resource
For an original small-gallery sign system, list an entrance heading, a room label, opening hours and one short description. Decide which content genuinely needs lowercase before choosing a capitals-only treatment for the entire system. Draw your own sample capital with a curved crossbar and inspect whether the stroke remains distinguishable at the smallest proposed sign size; keep that drawing separate from a licensed font. Jost and Bitter below are independent comparisons, not either original Atlantis resource. The homepage Unicode text transformations replace characters rather than supplying a historical revival or a commissioned hotel typeface.
Your questions, answered.
Are Solotype Atlantis and the resort’s commissioned font the same resource?
No. The sources describe different projects: a retail revival with added lowercase, and a custom brand and signage family.
What did the signage brief change about the resort type?
Monotype says the steel-cut letterforms needed sufficiently robust strokes. Later work expanded the capitals-based design to include lowercase Latin.
