Arquitecta: background and attribution

Daniel Hernández designed Arquitecta, published by Latinotype in January 2014. The foundry describes a geometric approach with humanist proportions, referencing American and European hand lettering from the first half of the twentieth century. Its intended role includes continuous reading, not only short geometric headlines.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

A relatively small x-height, pronounced ascenders and descenders, and ink-trap details shape the design. Eight upright weights have matching italics, with old-style numbers and fractions among the listed features. Compare the original specimen rather than assuming all geometric sans-serif families have the same proportions.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Set a full paragraph alongside a compact heading. Leave room between lines for the taller ascenders and descenders, and compare the actual lowercase size when matching another family. Inspect italic emphasis and numerals within running text before choosing resources for an editorial layout.

For independent comparisons, try Josefin Sans and Montserrat. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
