01

Alliance: background and attribution

Deni Anggara designed the Alliance family published by Degarism Studio. Its No.1 branch draws on industrial-era grotesque typography, while No.2 develops a more display-oriented approach. These are related branches of a family rather than interchangeable names for any font called Alliance.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Alliance No.1 uses ink traps that become more prominent in heavier resources and relatively open spacing. No.2 emphasizes contrasting shapes for larger settings. The family lists upright and italic resources, tabular figures, alternates and other OpenType features; inspect each branch’s specimen for the intended role.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Compare a compact paragraph in No.1 with a large heading in No.2. Use representative numerals and punctuation as well as letters. For a data-heavy layout, compare tabular figures in the actual application before assuming that every number has the same width by default.

For independent comparisons, try Inter and DM Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
