01

Start with the current foundry’s branch selector

Rellence’s Albra page separates Albra, Display, Grotesk, Sans, Text and Book resources, with named styles and variable options. That makes the branch part of the family identification, not an optional detail in a production brief. Use the foundry’s original selector to choose the resource you actually mean before comparing a screenshot or downloading a trial. This guide concerns that listed system rather than assuming every unrelated file called Albra is the same design.

02

Compare alternate letters and figure treatments

The foundry tester exposes alternate a and R controls on its Albra specimens, alongside old-style figures and ligatures. Enter the final title before changing a feature so its effect can be assessed in context. For an original magazine study, use Rare Forms and Issue 24, then add a price and date. Compare the title with each alternate disabled and enabled. Check whether the number treatment suits an isolated label as well as a line of ordinary text.

03

Build a repeatable title-and-body comparison

Prepare one original headline, a short introduction and two paragraphs. First compare the relevant serif branches at a fixed width, then consider a Sans or Grotesk companion for the date and navigation labels. Keep an editable record of the chosen names and styles so the comparison can be repeated without guessing. Playfair Display and Inter below are independent serif and sans-serif specimens; they do not supply Albra’s alternates or claim matching spacing. Inspect the original foundry tester for those decisions.

04

Keep variable and static selections explicit

The foundry’s variable product descriptions identify a weight axis and state that those packages do not include separate static files. Choose the format that the intended application can actually use, and confirm the requested branch rather than treating a variable font as the whole family automatically. The page also offers a trial route governed by its terms. Review the exact resource before acquisition, then proof punctuation and accented names in the final output. This page links the original tester and does not serve Albra software.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Does Albra name only one style on the foundry page?

No. Rellence lists several distinct branches and styles. Record the branch and style used by the layout.

Does a listed variable package automatically include static files?

The cited variable-package descriptions say separate static files are not included. Check the specific package before choosing it.
