01

A specific logotype source, not a generic effect

Rouault’s own project account traces Acid to the 1980s logotype of Japanese acoustic-material company Pyramid. He describes geometric construction, a unicase set and alternate shapes. Sharp Type’s original DOSS page identifies Acid alongside Exaflop, Plexus and Problem, within a display collection drawing on electronics branding. These are related designs, not four interchangeable names for Acid. A specimen’s music-related sample text also does not establish that Acid was used on a historical record cover.

02

Choose the alphabet treatment before drawing the lockup

Set an invented product name such as PULSE MODULE in the original specimen. Compare the default setting with the available unicase treatment, then inspect letters individually rather than assuming an uppercase command produces the same result as a stylistic set. Keep a reference copy of the chosen glyph sequence when exporting artwork. Place model numbers and operating instructions in a separate straightforward face so readers can distinguish a product title from information they must act on.

03

Compare original geometry with a different digital option

Use the publisher’s Acid specimen for decisions about its outlines and alternates. The Orbitron and Audiowide profiles below are independently designed comparisons, useful for comparing a technological display mood rather than recreating Acid. If your destination only accepts copied text, our Unicode text styling tool offers character substitutions, not Rouault’s typeface or its OpenType alternates. For print or an embedded web design, obtain the original resource and the license appropriate to that output.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Is Acid the whole DOSS Collection?

No. Acid is one of the named designs in the collection; its companion designs have their own alphabets.

Does typing capitals activate Acid’s unicase design?

Do not assume case conversion and a font’s unicase feature are equivalent. Compare the actual publisher specimen and the options available in your layout application.
