Abaddon: background and attribution
David Nalle’s Abaddon is a Scriptorium design that the foundry dates to the mid-1990s. Its description identifies lettering by Alphonse Mucha as a starting point, with modernization. The design therefore has a specific Art Nouveau reference rather than a documented origin in medieval blackletter.

Forms, styles and what to inspect
The credited listing presents a single-style family. Inspect the original character shapes and spacing before interpreting its dramatic name as a style classification. Modernized historical lettering can retain a decorative reference without reproducing every form of the earlier source.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a brief book or event title with a quieter serif caption. Leave room around distinctive letter details, and judge the entire word at its final size. Avoid adding so much ornament that the title’s own rhythm becomes difficult to follow.
For independent comparisons, try Belleza and Poiret One. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
